Every town/city/state has a DHS (Dept. of Human Services). If you know of a child or an elderly person being abused/neglected these are the people to contact. Child Protective Services for children…Adult Protective Services for adults. But this isn’t their only service.

If you have no income or child support they may help financially. They help w/ daycare so a single parent can work. They help w/ food stamps. They also help w/ Medical care…especially for children.

Then there’s the Child Support Enforcement Agency…yet another service of the DHS dept. If you have a dead-beat parent’s social/address/phone number they can locate them & force them to pay child support even if it means garnishing wages.

Like most help agencies every city/state should have one of these. But this isn’t really a help agency.

If your child has problems at home or at regular school this could be one place for them. If they’re in high school they get help with either a diploma or their GED but then they go on to like a tech school where they go 9 or 10 mo’s or so & get a certificate. While they’re going to school they also work & buy their own clothes & things. And they live there on the property for about a year…maybe 2.

These folks offer a range of services to teens & young adults from shelter, a transitional living program, counseling, & even a crisis line. I wish I’d known about this place when I was 17. If you’re around that age I hope you find the help you need here.
