About Dawn

Born in OK but moved away when I was little. Came back as an adult & got a book from an aunt about the family. I've copied that book to a tree & this site. Now I'm into website design, software installation & web graphic design. I have a site @ http://dawnswebdesigns.com. If you need a site contact me.

Capital Metro Transit

http://www.capmetro.org

This is Austin’s bus system.  As a city bus system they won’t come to Pflugerville therefore can’t help me/mine.

However, they claim to have a curb to curb service for disabled folks called CARTS.  They say schedule your ride by calling 800-456-7433.  The nearest stop to where I live is .69mi away.  So again…I don’t know if this service will be extended to nearby folks like myself.  I have sent them an email hoping to find out.

They say you request & return an application for STS services by writing Special Transit Services, Capital Metro, 2910 E. 5th Austin, TX  78702.  You can also return by fax @ 369-7779.

Austin Travis County MHMR

This is one of the few places Austin has to offer & they’re so packed you have to be really bad off before they’ll help you.

Housing Finance Agencies

In OK we have the OHFA. They have section 8 housing vouchers just like THA.

Let’s say you got a section 8 voucher & wanted to move to another small town or even a state…you’d have to “port” it through the OHFA anyway. But THA can do that for you too. Otherwise THA or OHFA…basically the same rules apply.

There is one more thing OHFA offers that THA don’t. They can/will let you get a rent to own home. I mean a section 8 voucher is going to pay so much a month regardless…why not let you use it towards buying a home instead of renting it? So I don’t know why OHFA & THA both don’t let you do this but THA won’t. I’m just not sure how you’d go about it…you’ll have to contact OHFA.

FAFSA

Go here to get a free pell grant (you don’t have to pay it back). I said before my kid & I got them because we lived in public housing/etc. but the fact is I also got one back when I was a single working mom…& I made $8/$9 an hour. So please don’t let the fact that you work keep you from trying to get one. The worst they can tell you is no.

Your Credit Report

I got a section 8 voucher therefore I’ve been trying to move. We now have these things called Tax Credit Properties. They’re still for poor people but they’re nicer/newer & have washer & dryer connections. They’re mostly for single working parents & also take some section 8 vouchers. So now rather then tell people to print a list & look for housing I just say go straight to any Tax Credit Properties.

Well my ex’s cousin…an apartment locater…told me to go get my credit report here: http://freecreditreport.com. Yeah…it says free don’t it? Well it’s not. The credit report is free but they also sign you up for their reporting service @ $14/15 a month. If you don’t want it you have to cancel in so many days or they’ll charge your card. I don’t know how many charges they got me for before I even realized this was happening. They should be reported.

Anyway I got my credit report & there’s 4 bogus charges on here. One was from an apartment complex in Tulsa that thought just because I moved off to TX they could screw me over. They tried to get me for $65 when they owed me $20. No matter how many times I sent a receipt they couldn’t figure out the math. So they forwarded this on to collection. I forwarded my receipt on to collection & this was supposed to be taken off but it never was. So I’ve just complained to all 3 credit reporting agencies & got it taken off.

Another one was the same charge twice…once from the credit card company & once from a collection agency. I got the collection agency…which was way more for some reason…taken off. You can’t report the same problem twice.

I’m still working on the other two bogus charges. The point I’m trying to make is keep an eye on your credit report. Don’t trust these companies or their clerks to do the right thing. And if you’re having issues…you can make a note on your credit report so anybody checking it might understand.

I’m not sure how you talk to Experian…I’ve been doing it via the net. But I have the other 2 credit reporting agencies addresses:

Equifax Information Services LLC
PO Box 740256
Atlanta, GA 30374-0256

TransUnion Customer Relations
PO Box 1000
Chester, PA 19016-1000

Bluedog Rescue

Me, my cat, & a pit bull have all been abandoned. We’ve had flea problems thanks to the dog we’ve tried like hell to get rid of but still got them & they’ve made my cat sick. The cat’s going bald, eating dirt & grass, & practically living in his litter box.

My now ex-roomie’s bro has offered to “get rid” of the dog. Plus I suppose I could call someone & have him picked up & put to sleep. But I’ve been “momma” for 2 months…neither one of these is an option. So I contacted Bluedog Rescue.

A very nice lady bought us something for the fleas & some food. Plus she’s coming back for both pets to take them to the vet to be checked out & “fixed”. Too cool! I don’t know if these folks ever won any awards or anything but they should. I probably can’t keep either pet permanently but at least I can long enough to find one or both a good home.
